Michael Pantig has been defending workers' compensation claims since 2004. His number one goal is to get the best outcome for the client, from laying out the best options for an early settlement to taking cases all the way to the California Supreme Court.

In 2005, Michael successfully appealed a workers' compensation case to the California Court of Appeals and won, arguing that there are limits to the Commercial Traveler Rule. (See Fleetwood Enterprises, Inc. v. Workers' Comp. Appeals Bd. and John Moody, 134 Cal.App.4th 1316 (Cal. Ct. App. 4th Dist. 2005).

In 2015, a year before California legalized marijuana for recreational use, Michael successfully submitted a Petition for Reconsideration in a case where the WCJ awarded reimbursement for self-procured medical marijuana. The Appeals Board sent the case back to the WCJ to determine whether a workers' compensation carrier insurer is a "health insurance provider" and excused from paying for medical marijuana.

Michael will take a case to trial early on if warranted. For example, he won at trial before the client incurred extensive litigation and medical-legal expenses, by arguing that the applicant was not an employee of the company he sued. (See Felix Hernandez vs. Compare Carpets and Hard Floors, Inc. , ADJ1035827 - December 2017)

Michael knows it is always important to present the client with opportunities to resolve the case. Michael strives to provide clients with the information and recommendations necessary for clients to make informed decisions on settling or litigating at any given time during the life of a case.

Michael studied and graduated from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. He was a judicial extern for Honorable Judge James M. Ideman of the US. District Court, Central District of California following his second year in law school. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Los Angeles. When he is not practicing law, Michael enjoys spending time with family and has a long list of eclectic interests.

I live and work in Simi Valley and have practiced here since 1999.
I love practicing law in Simi Valley and providing my community with personal and experienced legal services, with integrity and attention.

In 2006 I started my own practice, and now serve Ventura County and Los Angeles County. I have an extensive probate and estate planning practice (trusts, wills, powers of attorneys, health care directives, etc.) My practice also includes guardianships, real estate and business transactional law.

Prior to law school, I worked in the public service sector from 1987 to 1994, first in a U.S. Congressional office, and thereafter as community outreach coordinator for the City of Los Angeles, Environmental Affairs Department.

I graduated from Southwestern University, magna cum laude, in 1997.

In 1997, I joined the firm of Lynberg & Watkins in downtown Los Angeles. There, I worked on complex multimillion dollar environmental insurance litigation cases.

I wanted to work in my community of Ventura County and also serve the public interest and so in 1998, I joined the Ventura County District Attorney's office as a Deputy District Attorney, prosecuting a range of cases in which I gained valuable and substantial courtroom experience, including prosecuting a multitude of jury trials. As a Deputy District Attorney, I was called to prepare witness testimony and other evidence through which I sharpened my communication and advocacy abilities that have continued to serve me well even as I transitioned to civil practice in late 1999. From that time I have practiced in Simi Valley continually.

In late 1999, I joined the Law Offices of William J. Waters in Simi Valley. There, I worked independently on a range of civil cases including business litigation, real property, neighbor disputes, family law, bankruptcy, medical malpractice, and estate planning. I also conducted all of the firm's trials and also all cases that went to the appellate court.

Mike joined the State Bar of California in 2009 and has been admitted to practice before all Courts in the State of California and in the Central District of California’s federal court.

Mike has represented and assisted numerous businesses with identifying and implementing strategies to manage risk, protect against exposure, ensure regulatory compliance, and protect company assets. As a business litigator, Mike has been first chair in numerous trials, arbitrations, and mediations. His case work involves complex business disputes, real estate and development disputes, securities fraud defense, protecting intellectual property, commercial debt collection, and judgment recovery.

In 2004, Mike graduated from U.C. Irvine with degrees in Political Science and Economics. In 2009, Mike graduated in the top 5% of his class from Chapman University’s Dale E. Fowler School of Law, where his academic achievements placed him on the Dean’s List and earned him CALI Awards in Torts, Contracts, and Civil Procedure.

While at Chapman, Mike was also the Managing Editor of the Chapman Law Review and the recipient of the William Stallworth Scholarship Award for Excellence. In 2011, Mike received his Masters of Law in Taxation (LL.M.), with honors, from the Georgetown University Law Center; focusing on the taxation of business entities and tax-free reorganizations.

Since 2019, Mike has been distinguished as a Super Lawyer Rising Star, an honor reserved for the top 2.5% of lawyers in Southern California.
